JAMnesty 2007 and February Human Rights Conference

THE CONFERENCE: This year’s conference is designed to educate activist and the public on the most pressing human rights challenges of today. Highlights will be an expert panel on torture and workshops on violence against women, the death penalty, the arms trade, human rights 101, and human rights in Darfur, among others. Breakfast and lunch will be provided and there is no cost to attend.

THE CONCERT: 2007 marks the 4th annual JAMnesty Human Rights Benefit Concert. This year’s show features the eclectic line-up you’ve come to expect from an Amnesty production- from jazz guitar to experimental folk to Brazilian Axé to alternative rock. Tickets are $5 at the door and all proceeds go to Pretty Bird Woman House. Named after a Lakota woman whose tragic rape and murder brought attention to the high rate of sexual assault against Native American women, the house aims to raise enough money to become a full service women’s shelter on South Dakota’s Standing Rock Reservation.

Universal Children's Day 2006

We and The Ohio State University Colleges of the Arts and Sciences hosted a lecture in commemoration of Universal Children’s Day, 2006.

Our distinguished speaker was Professor Michael Freeman of University College, London, who is the founding editor of the International Journal of Children’s Rights and author of “The Moral Status of Children”.  As the world’s foremost authority on the rights of the child, Professor Freeman lectured on the historical development, current status and future prospects of international legal protections for children’s human rights.
